2004

October first marks the founding date of IceHosting. IceHosting started with 1 owned server in the Schuberg Philis datacenter in Schiphol-Rijk. Our business operations focused on offering affordable and high-quality web hosting. In 2004, many Dutch websites were hosted in the US. With our pricing, we immediately became one of the cheapest providers in the Netherlands in 2004 and 2005.

2005

In 2005, our name slowly became known to more and more customers, and our organization started to grow. So much so that with our 16 servers we moved to a new datacenter: TelecityRedbus 3. This was also the year we founded our subsidiary company InterRacks.

2006

In 2006, we were one of the first web hosting companies where it was possible to pay with iDeal. At the end of 2006, we took the step to become our own ISP. In the past, we occasionally experienced outages on our internet connection. Since we are an internet company, these outages were quite inconvenient. We decided to take everything into our own management, which turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. Thanks to our own network, we became completely independent and have not experienced a single outage in the years that followed.

2007

In 2007, the Redbus datacenter was acquired by Telecity, forcing us to move to a new datacenter. The new datacenter became Globalswitch, where we are still located today. We also noticed that in 2007 many more (small) hosting companies emerged, meaning we were no longer the cheapest provider. These small hosting companies charged ridiculously low prices. We decided not to compete below their prices and instead focused on "high-quality web hosting at an affordable price."

2008

In 2008, we added 2 new products: radio streaming, making it possible to listen to live music via the internet, and SSL certificates, allowing our customers to secure their websites for things such as webshops.

2009

In 2009, we started rolling out IPv6. We also became a participant at RIPE, allowing us to manage our own IP (v4 & v6) addresses. The implementation of IPv6 took until 2011 before it was fully integrated into our network.

2010

In 2010, we moved our company to Enschede because we had hired 2 new employees and there was not enough office space at the old location in Haaksbergen. In 2010, we also started software development services, meaning we could help our customers develop specific applications.

2011

The growth in the Globalswitch datacenter kept increasing, making it time for additional data space. We eventually found this by building our own dataroom under the name InterDC. The dataroom was built directly next to our office so we could finally save travel time and provide support much faster.

2012

In 2012, our focus was on launching a new website and a new ordering panel, making it easier for end users to place orders.
We also welcomed our thousandth customer and implemented several upgrades in our datacenter.

2013

In 2013, we launched the IceHosting app, allowing server customers to directly manage their server from the app. Useful in emergencies when a computer is not nearby. We also relaunched our VPS service. Our single VPS server was replaced by an entire cluster of servers with separated data storage. This made it possible to migrate virtual machines between physical servers while running.

2014

In 2014, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary and significantly expanded our VPS cluster with, among other things, new nodes and SSD storage.
The tweet about our cake was featured on ISPam.

2015

We left our server location in Amsterdam and replaced it with 2 new locations in Twente. The plan is to eventually offer services across 3 locations in the future. We also launched our own CMS system: IceCMS. This system is an alternative to Wordpress, allowing us to quickly and efficiently launch and maintain websites for customers. The CMS was well received by our customers, and that year we built 8 websites with it.
Additionally, in 2015 we participated as an exhibitor at a trade fair for the first time, namely at the Business Meets Twente event. We had the opportunity to speak with many people and customers and promote our CMS system and hosting services.

2016

2016 was the year of Ceph data storage. This software made it possible for us to store our data across multiple servers. Where we previously depended on a single server, Ceph solved that problem immediately. We simultaneously launched our 192TB storage platform with SSD caching, and it was a huge success! That same year, traditional SAN storage solutions were completely replaced by this setup.

2017

In 2017, we heavily focused on "twindc" for our VPS platform. Unfortunately, it took until 2018 before this project was fully completed. This was due to several technical challenges that first had to be overcome. We also purchased new compute nodes for the VPS platform in 2017. These nodes immediately became the most powerful servers we operate.
On our marketing/sales department, we also hired a new colleague this year.

2018

In 2018, we completed the "twindc" project from 2017 and even exceeded it by involving three datacenters instead of two. With capacity across 3 datacenters, we now offer the "triple datacenter" product, allowing VPS environments and other hosting services to run simultaneously across 3 datacenters. If one datacenter fails, our services continue uninterrupted. In addition, we achieved our ISO27001 and NEN7510 certifications this year.

2019

In 2018 and 2019, we hired 2 new employees in the technical and development departments. The new colleagues worked on developing and expanding our portal. We also launched a new website, and IceHosting celebrated its 15th anniversary this year.

2020

In 2020, Covid-19 arrived, and we helped many entrepreneurs move their operations online. Think of webshops, but also hosting streams for events and meetings. We invested heavily in additional server capacity and SSD storage.

2021

In 2021, our sister company opened 2 new datacenters through acquisitions. We immediately made use of this and launched our Triple DC service. This service allows virtual servers to run simultaneously across 3 datacenters and continue operating without interruption if one datacenter goes offline.

2022

In 2022, the legal entity was converted into a private limited company (BV). Exactly on the day IceHosting turned 18 years old!

2023

Due to the war in Ukraine, electricity prices increased significantly. We adjusted our policies and invested in energy-efficient measures.

2024

We invested in new AMD nodes for our VPS platform. Our VPS servers have never been this fast before, and our customers responded very positively! We also hired 2 new employees.

2025

In 2025, we invested in new NVMe SSD storage servers to deliver even higher performance. We are also investing in our own fiber-optic ring throughout the Netherlands, making speeds of 1.6TB/s no longer exceptional.
